Meacher withdraws. posted by Richard Seymour
Michael Meacher has pulled out of the leadership race, which means it's more likely that McDonnell will get the votes to get onto the ballot. As things presently stand, polls of Labour activists have never shown significant levels of support for McDonnell. The balance and tone of media coverage will militate against any advance for McDonnell, but now that the contenders are clear, and once people actually know who he is, there's a chance he'll pull in a respectable vote. Good luck to him.Labels: elections, gordon brown, mcdonnell, new labour
