Blair in trouble? posted by Richard Seymour
Well, obviously I wouldn't count on it, but it is significant that 100 Labour MPs are demanding a recall of parliament. The Guardian report says that negotiations are under way with Lib Dems and Scottish Nationalist MPs and that 200 MPs have supported a call for an immediate ceasefire. Blair himself is away on his holidays, with the pro-government Mirror slavishly reporting that Blair did all he could for a ceasefire. Blair has done everything within his means to block a ceasefire, but the obedience of the media in uncritically reporting Blair's repeated claims that he wants a ceasefire is only to be expected. So, the question is: Will nobody play Brutus to Blair's caesar? The evidence abundantly suggests that this will not begin to happen until public reaches a crisis point: we are close to that, but not there yet.
