Israel's Gaza Assault Expands to Lebanon: Protest Today. posted by Richard Seymour
There has been heavy fighting this morning between Israeli and Hezbollah forces along the Israel-Lebanon border. Hezbollah have captured two Israeli soldiers, which Israeli PM Olmert has described as an "act of war" for which Lebanon will pay "a heavy price." Israel is calling up reserve divisions including several thousand soldiers, so as to carry out what Olmert has called "very painful and far-reaching action."This makes tonight's protest particularly important. Please come if you can, and bring people from work, antiwar groups, union branches etc.
Emergency in Palestine
Protest outside the Foreign Office, Whitehall, London
Wednesday 12 July 5.30pm-7pm
Call on the British government to act to end Israel's military assault on the Palestinians.
Please join us in calling on our government to end its complicity with Israel's war crimes.
Called by Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
Hezbollah have acted now in solidarity with the Palestinians, who face a major Israeli onslaught: overnight, Israel carried out an air strike on a Gaza City house, killing at least six people and injuring 15.
US and UK intervention in the Middle East has done nothing to bring peace and democracy. By undermining the democratically-elected Hamas government, the US and EU have only increased the confidence of Israel, which already receives billions of dollars of US aid every year.
