"Revelations", Murdoch Press style. posted by Richard Seymour
This is a load of bollocks. Scum of the World says that the cops didn't shoot the Abdul Kahar Kalam without warning - his brother did. According to their 'sources' (the same kind of cops who fed repeated, malicious lies about Menezes to the papers), the cops were breaking into the house at 4am, like you do, minding their own business and that, when suddenly these fucking "Muslim brothers" start coming down the stairs at them. One of them grabs for the gun which - somehow - already has the safety catch turned off, and in the ensuing "scuffle" shot his brother. It's only a hunch (an informed guess, really), but I think this is a steaming pile of fucking crap.Grainy, menacing picture: "shot by his OWN BROTHER".
Among the other 'revelations' are that the one who was shot has a big beard - quite bushy, in fact, menacingly so - is a mail worker and had the bailiffs round recently because he hadn't been able to pay his bills. Oh, but don't let that fool you: him and his brother were "flush with money", ready to go on a trip to the "luxury island" of Mauritius with the family. And the parents, gawd bless em, are so eager to continue with this holiday that they have asked to see one of the brothers to inform them of this and begged the police to give them the suitcases that they still need to go. Either these are the most disloyal and repellent parents in history or they are being hideously maligned by the Scum. Other eyewitness accounts have the parents screaming in grief and shock when they discovered that one of their sons had been shot. And yeah, that bomb that they're supposed to have that no one can find? Well, apparently "intelligence" suggested that they had a big bunch of fucking "hidey-holes" where they could secrete a device. And it isn't any ordinary bomb either. It's a "chemical bomb", "primed and ready to go", laced with deadly "cyanide". This is weird, because the police have been telling us it was a "suicide vest" that would pump out toxic gas - how does one commit suicide then go off on a trip to a "luxury island"? Apparently, "One line of inquiry was that the gas was to be released in a busy and enclosed shopping centre, which mirrors the current plotline in the Sky hit drama 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland." So, let's get this straight: one the chief revelations of this story is that "one line of inquiry" happens to coincide with the exact current plotline on show aired by Sky which happens to be owned by Rupert Murdoch who happens to own the Scum of the World?
Never miss an opportunity to plug their own shit.
Last revelation? All that stuff about "tensions" is made up: the local community loves the coppers. Oh yeah, the neighbours were handing out cups of tea and everything. I confidently expect to discover that they actually dragged the two suspects away through a ticker tape parade.Something's up with this whole story. Not merely the Scum of the World's script, but everything we're being told about this (not least the repeated insistence that This Is Not Like Menezes) feels wrong.
Respect statement here.
