Capitalism and ultra-violence. posted by Richard Seymour
Question: for whom is the snuff video a sacred, integral part of one's culture? In which societies does one find people revelling in images of extraoardinary clarity depicting brutal beheading scenes, rape, murder and mutilated bodies? In which country do policemen have a laugh circulating video clips and images by e-mail, which take vile pleasure in the gory death of a fleeing suspect (the e-mails accrue racist remarks as they fly from one inbox to the next)? Where might one actually be able to make money from the recorded suffering of other people? Where is the self-alienation of humanity so complete that one can take pleasure in the mutilation and destruction of the body?Answers on the postcard inside your DVD cover.
