Another De Menezes? posted by Richard Seymour
This from The Guardian:A man claiming to have a bomb on board a plane was shot dead by an air marshal in Miami, US officials said tonight.
A US homeland security spokesman said the dead passenger was a 44-year-old US citizen.
The incident took place as American Airlines flight 924 arrived from Colombia and was parked at Miami International airport for a stopover en route to Orlando.
The spokesman said the passenger indicated during the flight that there was a bomb in a carry-on bag and upon landing immediately exited the aircraft through the jetway. Air marshals pursued and ordered the passenger to get down on the ground.
"The passenger then reached into his carry-on bag, at which point, consistent with air marshal training, the air marshals took the appropriate actions. Shots were fired as the team attempted to subdue the subject," the spokesman said.
Okay, so he told everyone he had a bomb? And he didn't detonate it when he might have? Assuming this story is accurate, and that the air marshals didn't simply assassinate an innocent, what they appear to have done is terminate the life of a possibly suicidal nutter rather than a bomber. Had he been in possession of a bomb, the first we would have heard about it would have been a loud bang in the sky over Florida. I'm not jumping to conclusions, but this looks suspicious if you ask me. Could it be another De Menezes? Or perhaps another version of those nefarious 'shooters' in New Orleans that prompted the police to fire at innocent civilians, including a mentally ill man?
