Diversion Ahead. posted by Richard Seymour
Well, the crimes in Iraq continue apace. At the same time, Bush's approval ratings have hit an all-time low. In response to this, we were promised a 'significant speech' from Bush in which he would justify the invasion and continued occupation of Iraq: he has delivered on his evil promise. In it, he claimed that ten Al Qaeda plots - including, ridiculously, an alleged 'plot' thwarted by the sending of tanks to Heathrow Airport. You'd have to be a dribbling idiot to believe this shit. At any rate, we have also had terror warnings in the United States. However:
An official from the Department of Homeland Security told CNN that the agency has received intelligence regarding "a specific but not credible" threat to New York's subway system "in recent days."
The official said that the intelligence community concluded the information is of "doubtful credibility.
Quite how 'doubtful' it is, we are not allowed to know since the details of the threat are "classified". There has long been a correlation between the incidence of such warnings, often based on out-of-date information and 'Orange Alerts' and some trouble for the Bush administration. Curiously enough, research shows that when US voters are reminded of 9/11, they are more inclined to want Bush as President.
There is only one conclusion: it must be a coincidence. Well, obviously.
